Chapter 14 The Rebirth Ceremony
Alder stepped forward and presented a piece of wood on which had been inscribed the symbol of Milia, two rivers extending upwards and branching into many small tributaries in the outline of a tree’s trunk and branches. Athel placed Deutzia on one side of the fire pit and Spirea placed Sumac on the other.
"We...we..." Athel stammered, biting her lip.
"We give thanks," the script supervisor prompted.
"Right, right," Athel continued. "We gave thanks to the spirit of the trees that..."
"Give, not gave," the script supervisor corrected.
"Fine! We GIVE thanks to the spirit of the trees that bring us warmth in the cold, and we...we..."
"We rejoice in their fulfillment..."
"Right, we rejoice in their fulfillment of the purpose of their creation...ummm...ummm..."
"May we all likewise," the script supervisor huffed.
"Great mother, I hate this line," Athel stewed. 'Who wrote this crap? May we all likewise fill full..."
"FULLFILL," the script supervisor yelled, annoyed.
"Stop badgering me!" Athel squealed, shaking her fist in the air. "This is so unprofessional!"
"Professionals learn their lines, Athel," the director corrected.
"What did you say to me?!" Athel screamed.
