Chapter 28
Mandi and Invini

Mandi Overtin shivered as she entered the frosty room. It was dark except for a single small candle which illuminated the covered body of Spirea as she laid unconscious on a small glass altar.

Mandi closed the door behind her and stretched. Her flesh came apart at her command, skin, muscle and sinew bursting apart, then re-knitting themselves into a new form more suited to the cold. Thick layers of muscle and fat layered on top of her black bones and quickly sprouted a thick layer of arctic white fur. Mandi sighed with relief with her huge bear-like mouth as she felt the warmth return to her fingers and toes.

Mandi enjoyed this body very much when it was cold, but she couldn’t remember what race it belonged to. She had certainly assumed the form often enough, but she really didn’t have a name to associate it with, just a warm, strong feeling.

"I really wish you wouldn’t do that in front of me," said a male voice from within the darkness. "It’s horrible to watch."

Mandi walked over to one edge of the room and threw open the curtains, casting sunlight into the room and revealing Athel and Privet, who had been behind the curtains making out.

"Oh, oh my!" Mandi said, blushing.

"CUT!" the director called out.

"Sorry everybody," Privet said, wiping the lipstick off of his face. "I didn't think this set was in use."

"There are over forty people and six cameras in this room," the director yelled. "What do you think we were doing in here?"

"Can we break for lunch?" Spirea asked, sitting up on the glass alter. "Being dead is hard work."

"You're not dead, you're just sleeping," the director corrected. "Same thing.”
