Chapter 9
The Dreadnaught's Stone-Array

Athel pulled herself up and peered through the shifting colors of the barrier. Dimly, she could see a short, stout little man, a Boethian like Odger, swinging a large hammer over and over against something in front of him, creating terrible screeching noises.

"The Umor Guild’s Stone-Master is in there smashing things," Athel called out as the ship lurched to one side, sending objects rolling along the deck.

"He’s trying to destroy the array and strand you here," Pops muttered as he passed by mopping the floor peacefully.

"So much for the Stone-Master’s famed unshakable neutrality," Ryin grumbled as he lowered himself down into the room, his booted feet landing squarely on Mina's white tail.

Mina let out a piercing scream, shattering several of the hanging lanterns and knocking Athel, who had the misfortune of being directly in front of Mina, against the bulkhead. "Get off me!" Mina screamed, yanking her tail out from underneath him.

"Sorry, sorry," Ryin apologized, getting his feet underneath him again.

"That really hurt, you idiot," Mina complained, cradling her throbbing appendage.

"It was an accident," Ryin explained.

"It's a huge white fluffy tail, how do you not see that?"

"I saw it but didn't think it would hurt you. I thought it was a prop."

"Why would you think that?" Mina accused, brushing the dirt out. "It's not a prop, it's my tail!"

"Okay, CUT, we need a full reset," the director instructed.

Mina stood up and kicked Ryin in the shin, sending him to the floor.

"Ahh! Why did you do that!" Ryin yelled, clutching his injured leg.

"I thought it was a prop," Mina imitated coldly.

"Are you guys deaf? I said CUT!" the director yelled.
