Chapter 1
Athel and Privet's Duel

If I wasn’t wearing armor, he would have just gutted me, she realized as she tried to leap backwards, but as she did so, her chain mailed skirt slid off her hips down around her knees, the belts on both sides having been cut by his stabs. With her knees tripped up by her falling skirt, Athel fell backwards onto the floor, her staff falling out of her grip as Privet leapt on top of her.

She struggled to move, but was pinned firmly in place as he straddled over her. With one hand he held both her wrists above her head and with the other hand he held his dueling saber, the tip hovering inches away from her throat. She could feel her heart beating wildly in her chest. His eyes were wild, and for several agonizingly long moments she wondered if he really might kill her. Slowly, however, his breathing steadied, but his grip on her wrists did not slacken. His eyes grew tame again, and he seemed to re-assume the form of the palace guard she knew.

With a wry grin Privet cast his saber aside and leaned in, placing his lips against hers and kissing her passionately.

"What are you doing?" Athel mumbled in confusion. She tried to squirm free, but his strength held her fast. Her protests began to weaken as the sensation overwhelmed her mind. Being powerless was frighteningly intoxicating.

From across the room, a nasally voice could be heard. "Um, what are you guys doing?" Ignoring the voice, Athel closed her eyes and returned his kiss. Every cell in her body felt charged and alive.

"What are you doing?" the voice asked again, this time angrier. "You are completely off script."

"We were improvising," Privet insisted as he broke the kiss to catch his breath.

"CUT! CUT! CUT!" the voice of the director was now screaming.

"Come on," Privet chided as he rose to his feet. "I'm just giving the audience what they want."

"Reset, we're going to have to do the whole scene over again now!"

"I thought it was a good take," Athel said, grinning from ear to ear as Privet helped her to her feet.

"You guys are so unprofessional, it makes me crazy!" the director yelled.
